PECAA’s business model is rooted in the objective of helping others. By empowering private practice eye care professionals to thrive, PECAA indirectly impacts the quality of service and medical care patients receive, which in turn, helps them maximize their potential and enjoy a better quality of life through the power of sight. This driving principle of helping others does not end with the company’s business model; it permeates throughout our culture, as exemplified by the actions of the PECAA team in our communities.
In June 2023, members of the PECAA team volunteered with Boca Save Our Beaches, a south Florida based nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the marine ecosystem through community collaboration, conservation and educational awareness. We braved the south Florida heat to cover more than two miles of coastline, picking up over 24 pounds of litter from the beach. The average was roughly two pounds per person and translated to approximately 1,270 pieces of trash no longer being in the environment or waterways.
The positive impacts did not end there. In April 2024 members of the PECAA Accounting and Finance team volunteered with Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth with the knowledge, ability, and confidence to navigate their futures, drive our economy, and lead our community by promoting financial literacy. We helped host more than 150 eighth grade students from two south Florida middle schools, and our role was to lead students through ‘real life’ personal budgeting exercises to help them develop practical skills they will use throughout their lives.
These are two recent examples of the PECAA team ‘walking the talk’ and making a positive impact on the community where the company is headquartered. Demonstrating PECAA’s commitment to supporting employee volunteerism, employees are provided two paid community service days per year.
There are many studied and documented benefits of corporate volunteerism which extend beyond the recipient and have equally positive impacts on the company and its employees — this authentically radiates throughout PECAA. I am privileged to work for an organization that understands the importance of corporate social responsibility and to work alongside colleagues who are willing to dedicate their time and effort to making a positive impact on the environment and community.
Without a doubt the PECAA team will continue to carry out the principle of helping others through future corporate volunteer efforts as the drive to do so is genuinely embedded in our culture.
Team volunteerism has helped PECAA; perhaps it can help your practice as well! By volunteering together, you could not only benefit your community but also help your staff members build stronger bonds with one another.
