11:10 am – 12:00 pm — Revolutionary Dry Eye Technology For Technicians And Opticians
Speaker: David L. Kading, OD, FAAO ABO-NCLE CE Hours: 1 — Course Level: ABO Ophthalmic Level II or NCLE Ophthalmic Level II Description: Technology should drive us to do three things: better understand our patients, better educate our patients and better treatment for our patients. This course shows us how to do those three things with some of the latest technology in the dry eye and anterior segment space. A careful review of diagnostic tools for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), dry eye and inflammation will be covered as well as methods of differentiation of the various types of dry eye. Additionally, tools will be discussed that help to treat dry eye and therapeutic mechanism for managing the condition. We will look at the future and what we can expect for diagnostics and treatments as time goes on. Following this course attendees will have a better understanding of the types of dry eye and how they are different from each other, tools to use to diagnose and differentiate dry eye from each other, methods to treat the inflammatory dry eye, methods to treat MGD and technological trends for the coming years and what is on the horizon.
12:00 – 12:10 pm — Q&A
12:15 – 1:05 pm — Binocular Brilliance
Speaker: Michael Gatti, LDO, ABOC, NCLEC ABO-NCLE CE Hours: 1 — Course Level: ABO Technical Level II or NCLE Ophthalmic Level II Description: This course explores the dynamics of binocular vision. You will understand the significant role binocular vision has with stereopsis, coordination and expanded peripheral views and will review the lens technologies that help balance binocular anomalies.
1:05 – 1:15 pm — Q&A
1:15 – 2:05 pm — MIYOVERSE: Myopia Management And Dispensing For All
Speaker: Michael Gatti, LDO, ABOC, NCLEC ABO-NCLE CE Hours: 1 — Course Level: ABO Technical Level I or NCLE Ophthalmic Level II Description: This course aims to provide opticians with a comprehensive understanding of myopia management and dispensing strategies for individuals of all ages. Participants will delve into the technical knowledge surrounding myopia, including its causes, risk factors, and ocular health implications. Beyond the commonly known myopia management for children aged 5-12, this course will explore myopia management solutions for adolescents, young adults, pre-presbyopia individuals, myopic presbyopia, and older adults. Engaging case studies and demonstrations will showcase the importance of myopia management in various contexts, such as sports, digital eye strain, and visual needs related to different age groups.
2:05 – 2:15 pm — Q&A
2:15 – 2:30 pm — Break
2:30 – 3:20 pm — The Optical Weather Report: Visual Snow Syndrome
Speaker: Cira Collins, ABOM, NCLEC, MPH ABO-NCLE CE Hours: 1 — Course Level: ABO Technical Level II or NCLE Pending Description: In this class, you will learn about the emerging field of Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). While you will not be responsible for diagnosing the condition, you will leave the class with a thorough understanding of what VSS is, how clinicians diagnose and treat and what optical solutions exist to support patients with VSS. Most importantly, opticians will be best equipped to validate patients struggling with VSS and make their practice the go-to place in town to have patient needs met with compassion.
3:20 – 3:30 pm — Q&A
3:35 – 5:15 pm — Lower Your Expectations: Embracing Best Corrected Visual Acuity
Speaker: Sam Winnegrad, MBA, NCLE-AC ABO-NCLE CE Hours: 2 — Course Level: ABO Ophthalmic Level II or NCLE Ophthalmic Level II Description: As eyecare professionals, our goal is to provide unimaginably sharp vision — to transcend conventional norms and amaze every single patient. Sometimes patient expectations can get the best of us. This is especially true if they are unrealistic. If we fail to properly communicate accurate expectations, we are permitting our patients to conjure up their own subjective ideas of what their vision will be like with their new lenses. Through this course, the reader will engage with many foundational principals. Topics discussed include visual acuity, the prevalence of the Snellen chart, refractive errors, and common conditions affecting visual performance. This course will also challenge the reader to contemplate the manner in which they interact with patients — demonstrating the importance in proactive education. As wonderful as it is to deliver an impressive visual outcome, unfortunately, we must also be willing to know when it is necessary to lower our patient’s expectations.
5:15 – 5:25 pm — Q&A
5:25 – 5:30 pm — Conclusion And Adjournment
