The Staff Training Program is led by Valerie Manso, PECAA's Director of Staff Education, ABOC, FNAO, ALB, ACB.

This resource page outlines all of the comprehensive staff training modules that are available to Members.

Optometric Staff Training Resources

  • Doctor Training

    Get up-to-date on the industry's newest technology and medical treatments. Taught by experts in the field, you have access to a variety of free COPE education. Listen to the webinars, pass a test and your credit hours will be sent and recorded!

  • Office Manager Training

    The Office Manager Certification Course is a 12-hour program that enables attendees to master the skills necessary to excel as an Office Manager in an Eye Care practice. The courses are taught via webinar and once attendees complete the program, they must pass a rigorous exam to ensure they have attained the skills required to receive the designation of 'Certified Office Manager'.

  • Billing & Coding Training

    The Optometric Billing & Coding Certification Course is an exclusive program presented by PECAA designed for eyecare professionals operating within the billing and coding capacity of the practice.

  • Optical Management Certification Course

    The Optical Management Certification Course is an exclusive 8-week program designed to provide ODs/MDs, opticians, optical staff and optical managers with the skills necessary to manage a successful and profitable optical. The program focuses on frame management, assortment management and building custom tools to take your optical to the next level.

  • New Employee Training

    Courses in the new employee hub are designed to get the newest superstars in eye care familiar with the industry. Courses include an Introduction to Eye Care, Ocular Anatomy, Ophthalmic Terminology, Common Eye Problems and Your Role in Eye Care.

  • Ophthalmic Assistant Training

    These training courses will benefit both new and veteran Ophthalmic Assistants. You will learn the basic skills needed to document a history and process a patient through pre-testing. Courses include Communicating with the Optometric Patient, Chairside Assisting, Pre-Testing, Telephone Triage, Understanding Refractive Errors and Patient History.

  • Optician Training

    The optician training courses describe the role of an optician along with the selling and technical skills needed to be successful. Courses include Successfully Discussing and Dispensing Eyewear, Technical Aspects of Opticianry, Frame Choice: Style and Function, Optical Sales: Rules to Sell 'BUY', and Ophthalmic Lens Types, Materials and Treatments.

    Once you complete the courses, you'll have an opportunity to take the NOCE preparation questions as well as review your knowledge against our answer key.

  • Administrative Training

    These courses discuss the fundamentals of billing and managing the front desk and patient schedule. Courses include Scheduling Best Practices, Front Desk - Be a Star, Medical Billing Basics, and Your Role in the Financial Health of Your Practice.
